Search By Gene:
Search terms may include a rice or Arabidopsis gene ID (e.g. At1g1070.1 or Os0802390.1), or keywords from the gene's description (e.g. a gene name like "crs1", or a function like "splicing"). When multiple terms are entered, the POGs returned include at least one gene that contains ALL of the search terms.
Using * as a wild card will allow you to match similar words. For example, searching for ribosom* will match "ribosome" and "ribosomal".
This search can be combined with the domain search and targeting prediction search to allow for very specific queries.
Search By Targeting Prediction:
Plant RBP currently includes the results of four targeting prediction algorithms: TargetP, Predotar, PredictNLS and NucPred. Selecting "Both" will yield genes for which both algorithms give the designated prediction (e.g. mitochondria or chloroplast). Selecting "Either" will yield genes for which at least one algorithm gives the designated prediction. Proteins that Predotar scores as "possibly" localized to the specified compartment are also returned in these searches.
Search By Putative RNA Binding:
By checking the box labeled "Putative RNA Binding?" the search will be limited to only the proteins that have been designated as being involved in RNA binding. For most of the these, the designation comes from the protein containing a domain that we believe to influence the RNA binding process. You can view a list of these domains here.
